May 2025 Astrological Insights

Hari Om and welcome to the second most influential month of the year! Now is a good time to think back to March, which held significant planetary transitions and eclipses that rocked a lot of energies and opened new gateways for growth and expansion. May is the second biggest month of 2025 as Jupiter, Mercury, Rahu and Ketu all make a move.. let us take a journey and explore the cosmic influences and energies at play this month…

Mercury moves into Aries (May 6 -23)

Mercury is the quickest orbiting planet of our solar system and Aries is fiery and fast energy that gives us courage to explore the new and unknown. When these two are together, intellect is heightened, ideas come through fast and there may be a sense of urgency about the endeavours we have. This is the month to ignite and take action! This is the time to “throw it all against the wall and see what sticks”, because when Mercury moves into Taurus on the 23rd, cosmic forces will be asking us ~ what of these inspirations are we truly willing to commit to? While the mind might be moving at a rapid pace this month, it serves us all well to take the time to meditate, contemplate and journal the insights coming through ~ when things slow down and ground in with Taurus, we will have the opportunity to deepen our resolve in alignment with the growth we truly seek. Use the energy to enliven, accelerate and expand with awareness ~ this burst of energy is something many of us have been waiting for, but it can feel discombobulating when ungrounded and unfocused, so if you feel scattered, take time to centre within ~ close your eyes and take 5 -10 long, deep, slow breaths. A simple practice such as this can quickly realign your energy, calm the mind and elevate consciousness, allowing for greater focus and clarity moving forward.

Full Moon in Libra, Vishaka Nakshatra (May 12)

This month’s Full Moon in Libra offers much needed balance for the swirl of cosmic energies, emotions, ideas, challenges and inspirations we’ve all been experiencing. Vishaka’s primary motivation is Dharma in the form of right activity. It is a motivating energy symbolized by the male Tiger. Another name for Vishaka is “the star of purpose”. The deities associated with this asterism are Indra, the god of transformation and Agni, the god of fire. Together they reflect the potential of this Nakshatra to ignite and transform ourselves and circumstances into a more aligned and balanced version of reality. This lunar mansion and Full Moon offers us the patience, persistence and determination to accomplish our goals.

The shadow side of this Full Moon energy can be persistence where it does not serve ~ pushing too strongly, or dictatorial (my way or the highway) approaches may result in “winning the battle but losing the war”. This combined with the heightened intellect and rapid thoughts could lead some of us into unnecessary confrontation and struggle. Desires may feel intense and overwhelming. Vishaka stirs our sexual appetites and desires ~ this can lead to new attractions, but can also lead to infidelity and betrayals as the racing mind seeks to justify actions in order to satisfy desires. Self-awareness is key to harnessing the potent energies of this Full Moon so that we may direct our energy toward positive and expansive endeavours, rather than a downward spiral into chaos and crisis.

Therefore, take the cosmic energies of this Vishaka Full Moon to align your relationships with your goals and inspirations. Rather than going to extremes, seek balance between the personal and professional and you will find great harmony and fulfillment in your endeavours.

Full Moon is always about releasing and letting go, so ask yourself what is tipping the scales out of balance for you at this time and course correct with the grace of awareness. Doing this now will benefit you greatly in the months ahead.

Sun moves into Taurus (May 14/15 - June 15)

Sun moves from fiery, fast-paced Aries into earthy, slow and steady Taurus mid May. This transition brings an earthy, stabilizing quality to our energy. It offers a time to focus a little more on material pursuits and goals. A time to ground in, centre and connect to the Earth in ways that help us to feel secure and steady. Especially once Mercury shifts into Taurus on the 23rd, there will be a renewed sense of calm, clarity and purpose.

Sun gazing at sunrise and sunset offers a wonderful way to connect with the enlivening and healing qualities of the Sun. This is an ancient healing practice that stimulates the production of Vitamin D in our bodies and is known to purify the blood as it passes through the eyes’ capillaries. Our bodies are made up of the Earth and need the Sun for health and vitality ~ as complex as the human being is, we need the Sun’s vital energies as much as plants. While over exposure to the Sun during the mid-day can be harmful, sunrise and sunset hours are opportune times to connect, absorb, heal, enlighten, ground-in, charge our batteries and download potent information from Source.

Jupiter moves into Gemini (May 14, 2025 - June 2, 2026)

Jupiter makes His annual move through the zodiac this year into Gemini, a synergistic placement for His benefic energies. Jupiter will make a brief passage into Cancer October 19 (exalted) and then retrograde back into Gemini December 4th of this year.

Gemini is communication, technology, creativity, community, curiosity, intelligence, humour and a much quicker energy than Taurus (where Jupiter has been for the past year). Combined with Jupiter’s grace, which offers expansion, abundance, wealth, wisdom, higher purpose, higher learning and the removal of obstacles, makes this a very exciting time full of opportunity! Mid-May to mid-October is a window of immense opportunity for new endeavours, personal growth, expansion and big dreams. Together with Gemini’s technological savvy and skilled communication makes this an ideal time to launch new projects, particularly online ventures, expand offerings, publish works and grow into new avenues of business. Jai Guru Dev!

Gemini is ruled by Mercury ~ jovial, quick-thinking, social and curious. In some ways Mercury’s transit through stabilizing Taurus is a perfect balance for acclimatizing to this new Jupiter-Gemini energy alignment, and then… once Mercury joins Jupiter in Gemini (its own sign) growth and success will feel inevitable. Use this window of time wisely and with awareness and rewards will be great, but always remember the wisdom of divine timing. Riding the waves of Shakti in alignment is much different than “hurrying”. Things can move very quickly when we are surfing, but we remain in harmonic flow and resonance with the cosmic energies. If we try to force anything due to a strict belief that something has to “be a certain way”, then we have fallen into the shadow side of Jupiter’s benevolence, out of wisdom and into dogma. This fall from grace leads to an accumulation of more karma and lessons we must face before obstacles can be removed along our path. Just keep surfing and allow yourself to be surprised and delighted by what the Universe has lined up for you!

New Moon in Taurus, Rohini Nakshatra (May 29th)

The New Moon sets the energetic tone for the month ahead ~ a time to plant new seeds and also reflect on the previous month. The earthly, steady and strong qualities of Taurus make this New Moon fertile ground for seeds you wish to grow. Rohini Nakshatra is beauty, sensuality, charisma and creative potential ruled by the Moon. According to Vedic myth, each Nakshatra represents one of the Moon’s wives and Rohini is the Moon’s favourite. Interestingly, the Moon does spend slightly longer in Rohini than in any other Nakshatra every month…

Rohini translates as “the growing one” and this star’s Shakti (power) is growth. Taurus is ruled by Venus and its element is earth which signifies that the fruits of one’s actions can be realized here. The Venus-Moon combination here offers all kinds of groovy cosmic vibes. Spiritual strength and earthly responsibility may be revealed here. New desires and interests may surface. Downloads, insights and inspirations abound. Together with Mercury in Taurus, there may be many new business and commerce ventures coming together as well. This New Moon is a time to rebalance our emotions and align our dreams with daily action, particularly daily spiritual practices that support us in living life in a balanced and harmonious way.

The shadow side of Rohini is over indulgence and materialism ~ if we are just focused on material endeavours, we quickly get caught in the trap of “never having enough”. This is a prosperous lunar mansion which can bring great rewards but, without spiritual grounding and an elevated consciousness, can be the cosmic energy that compels us to become lustful and lost in worldly gratification. Therefore, self-awareness is paramount to working with this energy ~ from the yogic perspective desire is a wonderful thing as long as it does not come from ego, the small self, where it quickly turns into lust, attachment and greed. However, the desires to grow, serve, create and evolve are all aspects of the Divine moving through us. These are the same energies moving through all of Nature that causes everything to grow, procreate and evolve, and when they flow through us, from a heart-centred place of soul, we remember our own, unique place within the Natural order of the Divine and live in alignment and dharma.

When we fall out of alignment with this Natural cosmic order, we live in karma and endlessly repeating cycles, or samskaras, that are all too familiar and unfulfilling. Therefore, the invitation of this New Moon in Rohini is to grow in alignment with our Divine purpose and dharma, to shed karma, release attachment and embrace soul-centred callings that inspire and move us the way LOVE makes us move.

Energies are strong and quick in May so we are all well served by slowing down and taking some time every day to centre, ground, breathe deep and meditate. May the force be with you!

Rahu enters Aquarius & Ketu enters Leo (May 29, 2025 - December 5, 2026)

Rahu and Ketu, the North and South Lunar nodes, move zodiac signs every 18months. Unlike the planets, the lunar nodes defy logic in their impact and influence to dramatically shift significant aspects of our lives such as relationships, career, health, finances and our spirituality path. Rahu and Ketu’s effect works to dissolve patterns and create new ones that can dramatically affect our lives. For an accurate, personal interpretation of what this means for you, the nuances of your natal chart must be read by your trusted Astrologer, but I will give a brief overview here and offer a longer article in the near future on my website as well.

Rahu in Aquarius pushes us all to break free of norms, step outside our comfort zone and question authority where we sense a lack of integrity or abuse of power. Aquarius represents perhaps the most rebellious and nonconforming energy within the zodiac and Rahu is a rebel in His own right. As the disembodied, head of the dragon, Rahu represents insatiable desire and the power of manifestation. Rahu encourages us to have courage and seek out new communities, soul tribe and often brings new relationships into our lives. The cosmic energies of this transit over the next 18months holds significant potential for deepening one’s spiritual path, to align our worldly endeavours with our spiritual evolution for this is how we step into and embody our highest living potential.

Ketu in Leo challenges the ego greatly. This transit will greatly test world leaders who are not centred in integrity with the best interest of the people and planet at heart. Ruled by the Sun, Leo represents leadership, authority and royalty within the zodiac. Leo can express as extremely prideful and arrogant in lower consciousness, but in its highest expression is the mighty king of the jungle who only takes what he needs, ensuring the entire animal kingdom and jungle are healthy and have what they need, the mark of a true leader ruling from the heart. Those not in alignment with this cosmic law and responsibility of leadership will face trials in coming months and, I believe, to those with a brave heart and open mind, significant hidden truths will be revealed and hidden agendas disclosed.

Ketu in Leo challenges us all to surrender pride, release ego-driven ambition and align with authentic, heart-centred leadership. Ketu is represented by the headless tail of the dragon ~ because He has no head, his effect defies logic. Ketu’s tail “whips us into shape” by unleashing rather sudden and unexpected events in our lives. This is Spirit’s way of correcting us along our spiritual path when we have not been observing “the nudges”. To the rational mind these events may seem “random”, but when we go beyond the mind and look deeper into the patterns and synchronicities of our lives, we may discover the cause. This is another reason why a thorough astrological interpretation of our birth chart offers invaluable insight into our life path and may prevent unnecessary crisis from developing. From a spiritual perspective, crisis is Spirit’s way of calling our conscious self to pay attention to one or more aspects of our lives requiring alignment with our higher Self, purpose and dharma. However, from the yogic perspective, this can be avoided by choosing to centre and align ourselves with dharma, and Vedic Astrology is a wonderful wisdom and tool for discovering and aligning with our highest potential.

As long as there is war, poverty, disease and unnecessary suffering in the world, one could say humanity remains in crisis mode. By offering redirection and correction to our collective path, Rahu and Ketu’s transit through Aquarius and Leo promises another wave of awakening and conscious evolution for humanity. It’s going to be an interesting 18 months ahead!
